Texas Hold’em is the most popular variant of the traditional game of poker. The game originated in historic town of Robstown, Texas. The game became immensely popular throughout Texas, and was introduced to Las Vegas in 1967 by some Texan gamblers, and card players including Crandell Addington, Amarillo Slim and Doyle Brunson. The game involves a lot of skills, and has certain pre-defined set of rules:

  1. Each hand dealt begins with blinds, and has four betting rounds with a final showdown.
  2. At the beginning of each hand, the two players that are on the left of the dealer pay the small blind and the big blind. These are forced bets which are basically used to start inflow of money in the pot.
  3. The player sitting just left to the dealer pays the small bind, and the player next to small blind pays the big blind. The amount of small blind is the half of big blind, and the big blind is equal to the minimum bet in the game.
  4. The dealer keeps on moving one seat to the left in every hand so that every player gets to pay the blind. By clicking on the dealer’s button, one can get to know the position of the dealer on the table.
  5. Once the blinds are paid, two cards are dealt face down to each player on the table.
  6. This is followed by round of betting – ‘Pre Flop’ with the player sitting on the left of the big blind. Each player has three betting options – call, raise and fold. If a player makes a raise, then other players at the table must match the raise amount or fold the hand.
  7. After this, dealer deals the first set of three cards that are placed face up in the centre of the table. This stage is called flop, and is followed by a round of betting.
  8. Now fourth community card is dealt – ‘turn’, and another round of betting follows.
  9. Then, the fifth community card is dealt and final round of betting takes place.
  10. At the showdown, players have to use their hole cards and the five community cards to make the best possible five card poker hand combination. And, the player with the best hand wins the game.
